Meet the Founder of LVADStrong
March 25, 2025
Phil Morton, LVAD patient and founder, leads LVADStrong to empower and connect the community.
Phil Morton knows the LVAD journey like no one else. Resilient, compassionate, and driven, he is not only the founder of LVADStrong but also an LVAD patient. His firsthand experience living with this life-changing device fuels his mission to create better resources, raise awareness, and build a strong community for heart failure patients. You can read his story here.
Phil’s path started with a harsh diagnosis and a challenging surgery. After receiving his LVAD, he faced a new reality filled with physical, emotional, and mental hurdles. Living with a mechanical heart pump is more than a medical condition. It changes daily life in ways few can understand. The constant care, the anxiety, and the isolation can feel overwhelming. Phil found himself searching for answers and support but came up short. The resources were limited and disconnected.
Instead of accepting the status quo, Phil decided to act. He founded LVADStrong to fill the gaps he experienced. His nonprofit focuses on connecting patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to a network that offers education, encouragement, and community. Phil’s goal is not only survival for LVAD patients but thriving in spite of the challenges.
He believes that peer mentorship is powerful. Sharing stories and guidance between patients creates healing for both sides. This insight has become a cornerstone of LVADStrong’s approach. The nonprofit builds real human connections that turn fear into strength and loneliness into support.
Phil’s leadership comes from living the journey himself. He understands the fear after surgery and the uncertainty of life with an LVAD. That empathy drives his commitment to making sure no one feels alone. Through LVADStrong, he amplifies the voices of patients and caregivers who have been overlooked or misunderstood.
Under Phil’s guidance, the nonprofit is growing fast. It offers practical resources on managing daily life, emergency preparedness, and emotional wellness. It partners with healthcare professionals to improve education and patient care. Phil pushes LVADStrong to innovate and expand its reach.
Phil’s story continues beyond his personal health. He recently launched a fundraiser to help LVADStrong reach more people and build stronger peer mentorship programs. His vision is clear: create a nationwide community that supports every person affected by LVADs.
This mission is personal and powerful. Phil Morton turned his struggle into a movement. With LVADStrong, he is changing lives and building hope for the LVAD community one connection at a time.
